Art vs. Vandalsim:

We here at 40 Watt Halo (and a lot of the founders of Pop Art Mogul, our parent company, for that matter) make no secret of the fact we support the idea of Mass Art. But a lot of people are confused about what is Mass Art, vs. just crap painted on a wall. Or they think that when we say, "We support Mass Art" we believe that those pieces of human waste that scratch pointless obscenities into the backs of bus seats shouldn't be caned in a Singapore jail. So for the education of the masses we offer this essay.

 

 

The Throw Tag:
A tag is a signature drawn stylized to the point of unreadable to anyone not closely involved. Tagging is a pastime that spans the spectrum of respectability from the most admirable artists to, as we discussed before, street rats that should be caned in a Singapore jail. Tags are unique to the individuals who draw them, except the Throw tag; The Throw tag is shared by all of us who throw. It lets us pick out others who are in the know and as such is not a traditional "Tag". In fact the only reason it's called a "Tag" is because that's how the graphic came to be and it's drawn really quickly for people to see but only those who understand it to read.
